Plants That Have Grabbed my Attention in Rwanda

It doesn't matter where we are, the plants grab my attention.
These looked like the angel trumpets my mom was trying to get to bloom in Texas.
I love the spiral in the petals.
There are flowers everywhere here.
The sides of the neighborhood roads are practically gardens.
This looks like a hibiscus with variegated leaves.
These look like bottle brushes.
I liked how the succulent was holding water in the center though it hadn't rained for over a day at this point.
These people flowers grow on a tree outside my classroom window.
I saw this walking home from school.
On the land where they are building a new school. The geometric shapes were interesting.
The rain made the lilies bloom again.
They have polka dots!
I am enjoying the "hot" season that hasn't gotten out of the eighties during the hottest part of the day. To these Texans it has felt like constant spring or fall since we got here.

Schulenburg 2020 - Rwanda 2025

When we left El Paso in 2020 it felt like life had taken the "unscripted" part to a new level. We had a bank account and everything lined up ready to move to Portugal and COVID shut down the borders.

Everything converged into a move to Schulenburg, Texas. It was a good place to ride out COVID. The country was a good place for our kids to make memories and roots for a good chunk of their childhood. The people are amazing and we love the community we have found and built.

I worked at the local public school, Talia passed all of her college entrance exams in 8th grade and has been doing dual credit homeschool with her brothers and Zoe has been going to school with me. I'm in the next-to-last course in my Master's degree in Educational Leadership. This has been a good chapter in our journey and Schulenburg will always be our homebase in the U.S.A.
Now, for the next chapter. We have one more move as a family before Talia is old enough to go her own way. We've been feeling like it was about time to move for many reasons that all came together this year. So, we prayed about it and put our resumes out to several different international schools.
Many seemingly perfect places, where it looked like we would be a great fit, didn't work out and we were confident that what was for us would make it all make sense in the end. That's exactly what happened.  We are going to a continent we have never lived in before: Africa. We will be teaching at an international Christian School in Kigali, Rwanda.

We never saw this coming, but the peace we have with how this process worked out is unmistakable and we're incredibly grateful.
