Kid's Unscripted: Chapter 30

Elias: "Can I hear a song on the computer?"
Me: "Which song?"
Elias: "Whack a pony!"
Me: "What in the world!???"
Elias: "...POLO!"
Me: "Ohhh... you don't whack a pony, you whack the ball!"

---
Elias: "You're so nice... I love you so much!"
Me: "I love you, too..."
Elias: "It's not my nap time!"
Me: "Oh really?"
Elias: "Yes, I'm on a nap time holiday" (a vacation from naps)
---
Natalia: "What makes volcanoes interrupt?"
---
Elias: "The moon was broken and I had to go fix it. Then I came back to this world."
---
Elias, squinting in the sun this morning: "Mommy, the sun is shouting at me."
---
Me: "Elias, what do you want for your birthday?"
Elias: "A rolling pin! And a spatula!"
---
Natalia: "I think China looks like an upside down goat with a hump on its back."
---
Natalia: "Do you know what 'off-o-sites' are?"
Me: "What?"
Natalia: "Offices on opposite sides of a building..."
---
Elias: (pointing at a picture of a bunny) "I want one of those! I want a blue one!"
---
Ben: "What do you think is one half of a fourth?"
Talia: "Is it one-twoth?"

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 29

Ben: (at supper) "Talia, you're waxing poetic about that..."
Elias: "Talia's not waxing in the diamond room!"
(Diamond meant "dining.")
---
Elias: "Whale eat Jonah with cheese..."
Me: "With CHEESE!?"
Elias: "Yes. Whale eat one Jonah. Shark want two..."
---
Talia: "When I see bright purple it makes my throat feel spicy..."
---
Talia: "Sheeram and Yokeedotch [that's a phonetic spelling, I have no clue!] were running around the classroom. I think they wanted to get their energy out"
Me: "How do you get your energy out at school?"
Talia: "I write, you have to wiggle your hand to write!"
---
Elias: "Grammy went back to the Nice Dates of America"
---
Me: "I have an idea for your birthday cake"
Elias: "In the refrigerator!"
Me: "No, your birthday is not until December"
Elias: "We have to drive to December and get the cake!"
---
Ben: (to the kids outside) "Why is the bicycle on the table?"
Talia: "Because we are building a house."
Ben: "So why is the bicycle on the table?"
Talia: "It's a machine to carve off the sharp."
---
Me: "Talia, do you like mashed potatoes?"
Talia: "Yes, especially when they're surrounded by things I don't like..."
Me: "You didn't like the chicken?"
Talia: "No... it turns into strings when you chew it and it tastes like beach sand."
Me: "When did you try beach sand?"
Talia: "Well, it was an accident..."
---
Ben: "It's supper time!"
Elias: "No, it's shawarma-warma time!"
---
Ben: "Do you want some chill out tea?"
Me: "Chamomile? Sure..."
Elias: "I want some tea! Chilly tea!"
---
Talia: "It's a moth! It's brown, you like brown!"
Ben: "I like coffee brown and wood brown, not moth-that's-been-flapping-around-in-the-desert brown!"

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 28

Ben: (after Talia played a really good move on a board game) "Oh, it's ON now!"
Talia: "Yeah, we turned it back on..."
---
(Talia and Elias playing hospital:)
Talia: "So what's your problem? Are you too hot?"
Elias: "Too cold!"
Talia: "Ok" (and apparently he goes in something like a toaster oven because then I hear...)
"DING! 9 degrees! You're just right!"
---
Talia: "Why is the answer always no?"
Ben: "Maybe you're asking the wrong questions..."
---
Ben: "When you're a kid you just have to learn, learn, learn."
Talia: "Yeah, and you get tired of teaching me sometimes, that's why you rented me a school..."
---
Me: "It's bedtime"
Elias: "WAAAHHHH!"
Me: "Do you want a story about a frog?"
Elias: "No..."
(Broken hearted) "bad frog..."
---
Talia: "You're too little to do that!"
Elias: "No, Elias is big, BIG!"
Talia: "Fine, you're too big to do that."
Elias: "Yes, ok. Big."
---
Elias: "Mommy, I'm a super hero."
---
Talia: "Where's the fireplace? Or the chimney?!"
Me: "We live in the desert..."
---
Ben: (to Elias with his play stethoscope) "Did you hear my heart?"
Elias: "yes, talking..."
Ben: "What'd it say?"
Elias: "Hello, Elias!"

Kid's Unscripted: Chapter 27

Elias: "Dancing shoes!" (pointing at some camo-colored Croc-like shoes.)"Belly button dancing! Chin dancing! Head dancing!"
Me: "Do they just make everything dance?"
Elias: (Nodding head vigorously) "Yes!"
---
Elias: "Elias need it!"
Talia: (big sigh) "I need to teach you how to use pronouns!"
---
Me: "Talia, do you like the name Calliope?"
Talia: "It's not my favorite..."
Me: "Do you like the name Penelope?"
Talia: "Those names sound like geography names!"
---
Talia: (about soup she didn't care for) "I'm too full to eat anymore..."
Me: "So you don't want fruit with yogurt?"
Talia: "I meant... I'm too full to eat anything after dessert!"
---
Elias: (looking a wind blowing the grass) "Grass waving at Elias!"
---
Talia: (reading to Elias) "Do you want to laugh at that?"
Elias: (fit of fake laughter...)
---
Talia: "Elias, you're a monkey!"
Elias: "Elias a big boy!"
Me: "Can the big boy put this in the trash, then?"
Elias: "Oh, Elias monkey..."
---
Elias: "Ezra woked up! Opened pretty brown eyes!"
---
Talia: "Look! I found a cricket... Oops. His abdomen fell off..."
---
Talia: "I like spicy things... except for spicy things that aren't cheese."
---
Elias: "Elias not peach, Elias gray."
---
Elias: "Elias want a purple banana!"
---
Ben: "Talia, can you see that book Ok? Do your eyes ever get blurry?"
Talia: "Only if I've been looking at it too long and need to stretch my eyes out."

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 26

Elias: (holding Ezra:) "baby have one, two ears!"
---
Elias: (helping mix banana bread with a spoon, scooping egg in mixture and dropping it back in) "Egg says 'bloooop!'"
---
Talia: "There's a new boy in my class."
Me: "What's his name?"
Talia: "It starts with a 'p' but it isn't 'Psalms' or 'P.J.'..."
---
Elias: "'C' says 'kuh.' Apple says 'mmmmmm!"
---
Elias: "...eighteen, nineteen, ten-teen..."
---
Talia: "When I met Ezra at the hospital when he was first born, I fell in love with him because I just love tiny, cute babies!"
---
Talia: "Every time I take a drink, I feel super-hero fresh! Like an apple!"
---
Talia: "Washing dishes is fixing history."
---
Talia: "Sometimes a little bit plus a little bit makes a lot."
---
Elias: [about Ezra stretching] "Baby made a 'Y!'"
---
Talia: "I know that makes sense because it was said by an adult..... But I don't know what it means!"
---
Talia: "I think cheetahs are cute but I don't like them because they're meat-eaters. I wish they were broccoli-eaters because I don't like broccoli very much."
---

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 25

Talia: "I'm putting lotion on your freckles because I don't want them to go away because I think they're beautiful."
---
Talia: "That was just my unrhymable rhyme..."
---
Elias: "wear pip-pops!" (Flip flops)
---
Talia: "A chin is just a big point growing down your head..."
---
Talia: "I'm a factory lady..."
Me: "What kind of factory?"
Talia: "It's the kind that goes to all of the barber shops and sweeps out all of the hair and turns it into soap! It's really hard and you have to go to school to learn how to do it."
---
Talia: "This is a nice king. He doesn't just sit around and tell people what to do, he actually helps them!"
---
Talia: (to Elias) "I knooooow... if you know it, I know it. In fact, you probably learned it from me to begin with..."
---
Talia: "It's just like normal... except it's different."
---
Elias: "Lid, stucken!" [The lid is stuck.]
---
Talia: "If you want to see if someone is breathing, you could put a harmonica to their mouth. If it doesn't make any sound, they might need to go to the funeral home..."
[She later reassessed this theory since she noticed she had to be breathing fairly strongly to produce sound.]
---
Talia: "Do you have to water your hair if you want it to grow?"
---
Talia: "Do moths say anything or are they shy?"
---
Talia: "Babies are weird: they poop and eat in their sleep and they don't know any words... But they're baby people! I like baby people!"
---
Elias: "Baby, peepee, diaper. Need prize!" [He was trying to share some of his potty training prize with baby Ezra.]
---
Talia: "Boy babies are cutest kinds of boys."

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 24

Me: "Talia, can you use 'last but not least' in a sentence?"
Talia: "Putting icing on a cupcake is the last but not least step!"
---
Ben: "what did you do with your beard? Wash it off in the bathtub?"
Elias: (nodding) "yeah!"
---
Elias: (crying and pointing to his top lip) "Elias hurt, mustache!"
---
Elias: (pointing at the window) "Mommy, wet stuff!"
Me: "That's called rain."
Elias: "Rain, like!"
---
Talia: (upset) "My ice wont stay on the bottom of the cup!"
Me: "There's our next science lesson..." (Can you tell we don't have ice often?)
---
Talia: "The dwarves smashed my finger!"
Me: "Dwarves?!"
Talia: "I mean, 'drawers.'"
---
Talia: "Mama, you smell like Temaw..."
Me: "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
Talia: "A good thing."
Me: "What does that smell like?"
Talia: "Lotion!"
---
Talia: "When my heart gets full of love, it spills over to my mouth and makes me smile!"
---
Elias: "Mommy: woman. Papi: man. Talia: girl. Elias: GUY!"
---
Talia: (to me) "I'm teaching Elias new sentences, see watch: 'Doughnuts are delicious!'"
Elias: "Doughnuts are li-dicious!"
Talia: "Good boy! I think I'm a good teacher!"
---
Talia: "Mommy, can you check and see if I have any goosebumps?"
Me: "I don't see any..."
Talia: "Maybe it's because I haven't grown up and gotten married yet..."
Me: "Why does getting married give you goosebumps?"
Talia: "Because you fall in love!"
Me: "And falling in love gives you goosebumps?"
Talia: "Yes! Falling in love is where your love cup spills over and you love even more and it gives you goosebumps."
---
Talia: "Papi, you only have two gray hairs in your beard! That means you probably won't die before I'm an adult!"
---

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 23

Elias: (dropping toys in the bucket and mostly missing and making a mess) "Mama, mess!"
Me: "Did you make a mess?"
Elias: *nods*
Me: "Go pick it up..."
Elias: "Mommy's turn!"
Me: "I don't think so!"
---
Talia: "The thing about this paper airplane is that I know it doesn't have any feelings, but it sure is acting tired."
---
Talia: "If I draw 'x's side by side and make them hold hands at the top and the bottom they make beautiful diamond shapes!"
---
 Talia: (with a measuring tape) "Is this a cillimeter?"
---
Talia: "I'm going to make frog dressing, like flies grinded up: the kind of dressing frogs eat... so that when I get a pet frog he can eat it! I bet frogs would like fly pies, too."
---
Talia: "Understanding means just not dis-understanding..."
---
Talia: "How do you know if it's a fig tree or a maple tree, because both have 5 points on their leaves?"
---
Talia: "Mommy, do you want me to tell you a kindful story?"
---
Me: "Elias, what did you do with the blueberries?"
Elias: "Round and round!" [blender]
Me: "What are you going to make with them?"
Elias: "Pockles!" [popsicles]
---
Talia: "If, when I grow up someone asks me to be queen, I will be a queen of discipline instead of violence."
---
Ben: (to me) "Mama, don't tell Talia, but I love her a LOT!"
Talia: "Why would you tell Mama not to tell me?! That's a lovely thing to say!"
---
Elias: "Lias, monkey!"
Me: "Elias is a monkey?"
Elias: "Yeah! Mommy, bear!"
Me: "Mommy is a bear? What's Talia?"
Elias: "Cracker!"
Me: "What's Papi?"
Elias: "Banana!"
---
Me: (to Talia) "Thank you for eating your supper even though you didn't like it."
Talia: "Yeah... I think the only way to fix that one is to just not make it."
---
Me: "Elias, did you poot?"
Elias: (shaking his head no) "Cat poot!"
(We don't have a cat...)

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 22

Elias: (putting a car on Ben's head) "Hat!"
(putting a car to Ben's eye) "Car kiss!"
---

Talia: “Some things are odd.”

Me: “Like what?”

Talia: “Numbers…” (sneaky grin)
---
Natalia: "Papi, is a guess room in your house just called that because you have to guess who's coming?"
Ben: "Ummm......."
---
Talia: "Did you cook all of the radishes?"
Me: "Yes, they're in the refrigerator now."
Talia: "Good, because I'd like one fourth of one!"
---
Elias: (looking at a book of opposites) "Straight!"
Me: "That slide is straight."
Elias: "Crooked!"
Me: "That slide is crooked."
Elias: (pointing at the straight slide) "Crooked NOT!"
---
Talia: "Mommy, would you like a sunflower seed?"
Me: "No, thank you."
Talia: "Take some, the baby will want it..."
---
Elias: "Ice-cream, Elias need..." (pointing to his tummy) "TUMMY!"
---
 Talia: "Elias, you can't hide your sin... I will tell Mama!"
---
 Talia's version of color theory:
"Sometimes when you mix colors you get yucky colors... my favorite yucky color is greenish-gray, but just to study, not to touch. If you add white it's a little bit prettier, but then if you add reddish-brown you need to throw it in the trash can and take it out so you don't have to smell it."

---
Elias has been paying attention as I have been teaching Talia to tell time on an analog clock. Now, when he sees the numbers on the dial of the washing machine setting, he points at it and says "O'clock!"
---
Elias: (pointing at his mouth) "Loud! Teeth!"
Me: ???
---
Talia: (Making up a story about a frog and a dragonfly) "... and all the frog could say was 'hello, lunch!'"
---

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 21

Talia: (Pointing at an advertisement) "Mama, what's that? Is it an alien or something?"
Me: "I think that's called a minion."
Talia: "It's very sad that it only has one eye! He can only blink, but never wink."
Me: "No?"
Talia: "No, you need two eyes to wink... except some people have two eyes and still can't wink. Maybe they're allergic to it or something."
---
Talia: "What if you were lonely and you didn't have any family or husband or kids so you bought a baby otter!?"
---
Elias crawls in my lap and says "back?" asking me to rub his back.
---
 Ben: "When I was little, octopus had 12 legs."
Talia: "Nooooooo.... they're made with only 8!"
Ben: "Yes, and they were called 'duo-deca-puses'"
---
Talia: "Mommy, sometimes I grow new favorite colors."
---
Talia: "These cookies are super yummy, but I couldn't eat a thousand... and, actually, we made less than a thousand anyway."
---
 Elias is learning new words every day. His recent additions are "Stop!" Especially "Stop, Talia!" and the letters "I, G, B" and "H." Talia has taught him "T says 'tttt'" also and that "Talia starts with T" so many times he says "T! tttttt! Talia!" He calls himself "Lee-us" and seems to be constantly yelling "cracker!" because it's so hard to keep him full! My favorite, though, is when he tries to sing: "ay yi yi, mi amor..."

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 20

Talia: "Mommy, I can reach the milk without even a chair! I'm getting taller! Yay!"
---
Talia: "Three hours?! That's even longer than two hours!!!"
---
Talia: "I don't ever want any sort of confection!"
Me: "I think you're meaning 'infection'."
---
Talia: (playing fire truck) "Here comes the person else seeing if there's a fire..."
(She meant 'another person'.)
---
Talia: (drawing a sea monster) "So if you ever find yourself in pretend water with these pretend creatures, be careful!"
---
Talia: (Running away from Elias who has a play syringe from a play Dr.'s kit)
"He's trying to 'shot' me!"
---
Talia: (presenting a plate of pretend truffles) "Be careful! That's a Caramel Wiggle truffle and it'll run away if you're not watching!"
---
Talia: "I'm building a church for birds (with blocks.) I'm leaving these holes so the bugs can get in because you need lunch at church!"
---
Me: "Your shirt says 'Park Ranger.'"
Elias: "Woof!"
Me: "Park, not 'bark.'"
---
Talia: "Mommy, all of my icktertaliens (ick-ter-tay-lee-uns) are sitting on the floor outside."
Me: "What's an icktertalien?"
Talia: [holds up a creation made from clothespins] "They fight bad! So if you ever want to fight an animal you should fight a monkey or something, not an icktertalien."
---

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 19

Talia: "All of our tigers are sweet ones that hug."
---
Talia: (after falling off of her bike) "one thing that doesn't need a friend is a scratch, those are better off lonely."
---
PawPaw: "Maybe we can save the shoes that are too small for Elias for a baby brother or sister."
Talia: "If there's another brother or sister, it's going to be mine. Elias will have to wait for another one."
---
Aunt Chel: "Turkeys don't say 'quack!'"
Talia: " They do in my pretendment."
---
PawPaw: "Who's this?" (Pointing to Talia)
Elias: "Talia!"
PawPaw: "Who's this?" (Pointing to me)
Elias: "Mama!"
PawPaw: "Who's this?" (Pointing to himself)
Elias: "PawPaw!"
PawPaw: "Who's this?" (Pointing to TeMaw)
Elias: (blank stare and then pointing to a Pepsi can.) "Pepiiii!"
---
Talia: "Mama, what do snails eat?"
Me: "Plants and things like bird poop."
Talia: "We should use them to clean cars!"
---
Talia: (to Elias) "You are funny! You are Elias and you are a boy and you are funny!"
---
Elias: (pointing at Talia's chocolate shake from PawPaw) "BIIIIIIIIIITE!"
Talia: "Elias, you can't always get what you want. Leave me alone, I am trying to ENJOY my shake."
---
Talia: "What do lions say when they yawn? 'Rawr or RAAAAAWWWWRRRRRR!'"
---
Me: "Look, Elias, there's a baby cow drinking its mama's milk."
Elias: "MMMMMMMMMM!"

Kids Unscripted: Chapter 18

Talia: (throwing a blanket over Elias) "Look, Elias wants to be a poultry-geist!"
Elias: *laughing*
Ben: "I think you mean a poltergeist."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: (playing with some little plastic people) "...and he had a friend named Google..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
J: "What kind of dinosaur is this?"
Talia: "A connoisseur-ous"
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Kanga-rooooo, Kanga-rooooo,'
Mommy, do you like my song? I think it needs a few more words..."
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "If you have met your friend, your friend has met you..."
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "I want to see the blue blobster!"
(She meant lobster.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Kohlee and I just slipped into friendship!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Can I make a flower-girl dance?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "I just made a calm-spin-around-dance. It's better than the hyper-spin-around-dance."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mommy, do rice-krispie treats have vitamins?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 17

Talia: (playing with some stuffed animals and making them talk to each other)
Elephant to the Rabbit: "Are you sure there's not an alligator between your toes?"
Rabbit to the Elephant: "Noooo!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Elias just took some cucumber and then he threw it back up! Um, by that I mean with his hands..."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "I don't eat like a 'muncheroo'!"
Me: "What's a 'muncheroo'?"
Talia: "A kangaroo that eats really fast!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Is 'clothing' just clothes?"
Me: "Yes..."
Talia: "So if you have a bunch of towels is it called 'towelthing?'"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: "Elias, what's in your hand?"
Elias: *holds up a wipe* "poo-poo bye-bye?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: "Goodnight, Talia."
Talia: "I need to give you lots of hugs and kisses so you don't run out of lovin' in the middle of the night."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "If everyone in the world had blueberries, they would probably be happier."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Why are they called 'chipmunks' when they eat nuts instead of chips? Shouldn't they be called 'nutmunks?'"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Talia: "When your tummy hurts, is it because there's a storm in your tummy?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mommy, I turn my brain on but it keeps flipping back off!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: (In a story she was making with her stuffed animals) "They went right, then left, then the other right, then left... and then they were exhausted."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "If I call Elias 'little E,' would I be 'medium T'?"

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 16

Talia: (about random, faint doodles all over her math work) "I had to erase all of that... it was just from my forgotness."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mama, I'm going to play you a song on the piano called 'God Makes Little Girls in His Creation.'"
Me: "How long is it?"
Talia: "About 20 inches tall."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: "Talia, be patient, hold your horses!"
Talia: "I don't have any horses, so I'll hold my ducks!"
Me: "You don't have ducks either..."
Talia: "Yes I do! They're sleeping in my bed!" *fit of crazy giggles...*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: "You can either read, or go to bed"
Talia: "I only have enough energy to play!"
Me: "Then you will have to go play like you're sleeping..."
Ben: "That is my favorite game to play!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Why are nuts that are shaped like a butterfly called 'walnuts' instead of 'butterfly-shaped nuts'?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mama, Elias and I are just sitting here being friends."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "I make art because I love people and it makes their eyes happy."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "It doesn't matter how pretty the pencil is if it doesn't write..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mommy, you can call me 'lovely girl Talia' if you want..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Do people put sticks in a stick-grinder to make brown paint?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Talia: "Some people make bird-chirpy sounds, but Elias BELLOWS!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Talia: "Mommy, why isn't 'Ponka-tonna-phillis' a name?"

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 15

Talia: "Purple and grape rhyme when you look at them, just not when you say them."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "My eyes are getting tired. They make me feel like there's a half-onion laying around somewhere."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "I want to be a thing-maker when I get big."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Elias, you're my favorite brother!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Is this vitamin good for if you accidentally eat a bug?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Mommy, I don't think my brain is working right. I tried to turn on my dreams last night and they would baaarrrely work!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: "Talia, where is your plate?"
Talia: "Sitting patiently on the table waiting for something to fill it up!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Talia: "Mama, you're my favorite thing to play with."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Me: "Talia, what do you think we should make for breakfast?"
Talia: "Scrambled egg and peanut butter sandwiches!"
Me: "All together? Ewwwwww!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "What if you had a voice like a tum-nimmy song?"
Me: "What is a 'tum-nimmy'?"
Talia: "It's a special kind of mouse song."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elias: "Waaaaaah"
Ben: "Why's Elias crying?"
Talia: "I put his shoes on his hands..."
Elias: "WAAAAAAHHH"
Ben: "Now why is he crying?"
Talia: "Because I took the shoes OFF of his hands... and that just doesn't make sense!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 {Note: Angry Bird stuffed animals are a big thing in the U.A.E. So I told Talia what they were and she said:}
Talia: "I want the play the 'birdy get out of the rubberband' game!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talia: "Sometimes 'helpers' make things even harder, don't they?"
Me: "Haha, how did you figure that out!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Elias' 16-month-old guide to understanding his talk:

"Balala" = "Banana"
"booboo" = "I have a dirty diaper..."
"Biaper" = "diaper"
"BITE" = "I think I'm going to die if I don't get food in my mouth right NOW!"
"tay-too" = "thank you"
"boom" = "broom"
"tee-koh" = "tickle"
"dedos" = Spanish for "fingers" or "toes"
"ish" = "shoes"
"down!" = this can mean "up" or "down" depending on where he is at the moment.
"uh!" = "up"
 "Dada" = "Papi" (and we've never called him anything else, so I'm not sure why he's saying 'Dada...')
"dis" = "this"
"Pahpah" = "Pawpaw"
"ow-sigh" = "outside"
"beh" = "bear"
"nai-nai" = "night-night"

Then there are words like: "bye bye, Mama, wow and Talia" that don't need any translation.
He understands exponentially more than he says at this point in time. I have a feeling it won't be long before he is talking my ears off just as much as his older sister.

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 14

Talia: (to Ben with her play food set) "Would you like a big tonk of icecream on a cone?"
Ben: "What's a 'tonk?'"
Talia: "A big 'ole scoop!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Why don't they make high-toed shoes instead of just high heeled shoes?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me: (to Ben as we are driving back from Dubai) "I wonder if Elias is hungry..."
Elias: "BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITE!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "I'm an 'iguala!"
Me: "What's an 'iguala'?'"
Talia: "It's like an iguana and a koala at the same time!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ben: (to Talia) "I wonder what you'll look like when you're 25..."
Talia: "I guess you'll just have to wait and find out because I don't know either."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me: (to Talia) "Do you want some spicy pasta?"
Talia: "No, because it might make me catch on fire!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Me: (to Elias) "Do you want to sit up here?"
Elias: "DOWN!"
Me: (later) "Do you want to go up stairs?"
Elias: "DOWN!"
Me: "What's the opposite of 'up,' Elias?"
Elias: "DOWN!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "I want to use all of the colors of the alphabet!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "When I was little, I had surgery and the doctor took out the bad chimney so it wouldn't mess up the good one."
Ben: "Chimney!? Do you mean 'kidney'?"
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "I'm going to draw this with 'pork dots.'"
Me: "What are 'pork dots'?"
Talia: "Like polka dots, but with little pigs everywhere!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Me: "What are you drawing, Talia?"
Talia: "Something fuzzy-armed and toady-eyed!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ben: "Talia, are you made out of questions?"
Talia: "No, I'm made out of a little piece of my Mommy, a little piece of my Papi and dirt."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Why doesn't a toad have a neck?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Mommy, do we have some sort of telescope bone, like behind our eyes or something?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "This lotion smells yummy! But I guess I won't eat it since it's not a food like mashed potatoes or something..."
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "Do a lot of people have straight hair?"
Me: "Yes."
Talia: "Do a lot of people have curly hair?"
Me: "Yes."
Talia: "Well, I guess that just means there are a lot of people..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me: "Talia, how much soup do you want?"
Talia: "Enough so that I don't have too much..."

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 13

Talia: "Guess what, I learned how to clean my mouth with just a napkin! A dry one!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Mommy, I took a bite and it made my back hurt!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "I'm going to throw the Kleenex in the fire... I wonder what color it will turn!?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: (after getting licked by the puppy) "Now I'm just sitting here with a licked nose!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "I picked up that rock and the ants growled at me so I ran away!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "I'm like a line (shape) now, so I'm more like a grasshopper. Elias is like a ball, so he's more like a ladybug."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "You can't make a present for yourself, you have to make it for someone else!"
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Sometimes tangles are like two snakes fighting!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Does your brain hold your hairs in?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "When you stop growing, it's like when an elevator gets to the top, you can't go up anymore."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ben: (to Talia) "What are you digging in your nose for? Are you looking for gold?"
Talia: "No, I'm looking for raisins!"
Ben: *GAG*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: (to me) "Are you concentrating the whole house?"
Me: "Do you mean 'cleaning?'"
Talia: "Yes!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: (holding two sticks and pretending they are a violin/fiddle... and then giving one to Elias)
"Here Elias, you play a little music-tar"
Me: "What's a music-tar?"
Talia: "A type of gui-tar that hasn't been invented yet."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Mommy... my spring roll is slowly turning into a salad on my plate. I think I need a fork...
Kids Unscripted: Chapter 12
Talia: "What happens if the road curves and you keep going straight?"
Me: "I think you should ask Papi, he did that one time..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "One way to make a baby have fun is to skip while holding her!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "That burp just grabbed some gas from my tummy and threw it out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Do you know of a vacuum cleaner that flies when you hold the handle?"
Me: "Hmmm, nooo, not yet..."
Talia: "It's probably in a tornado..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aunt Chel: "Talia, do you want to help make peach cobbler?"
Talia: "Yes, I want to make peach toddler!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "What would happen if you were in Abu Dhabi and you got the juice from a pear and you put it in a plate and you took it outside?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "What would happen if you took something too tiny to see, stretched it out and stuffed something small inside it and closed it up and then smashed it?"
Temaw:(what she calls her grandma) "Maybe nuclear fusion!?!?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Talia: "(Aunt Chel) has (stuffed) lions and tigers and zebras in her room, so I shut the door really fast so they wouldn't get out!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: " Babies need two seatbelts, but big kids only need one.... but really big people probably need three."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elias: "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!"
Talia: "Elias, when you don't get your way you're supposed to say 'Oh, well!'"
Me: LOL!

Kids Unscripted; Chapter 11

Talia: (drawing) "I'm going to make more than one ant so that he doesn't get lonesome."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Dates are like God's candy!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: (to Elias, who refuses ANYTHING that remotely resembles baby food) "Don't cry if you can't get it when you didn't want it!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: (looking at a rare Happy Meal of fries and chicken nuggets.) "Um, mommy, that's only junk food. Can I have a cucumber, please?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Can you tell me a story about a brown and white rabbit named 'potato?'"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "That's not bell pepper, it's the smiley faced kind."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: (after seeing the silly string on the sidewalk from the 41st anniversary of the U.A.E.) "Thread you use to sew must be called serious string."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Mommy, do they use a really big marker to make the stripes on the road?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talia: "Mommy, you're a really good potato head doctor!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me: (to Elias) "Here's some water."
Elias: (points from the water to his mouth.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Talia: "I was trying to read that book while I was sleeping, but it was hard 'cuz my eyes were closed." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Talia: "When I have just one ear plugged up, I feel like a boat that's going to tip over." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Talia: "Mommy, do you know what ribs are like? They are like a bowl that is cut in half and then turned around!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
